One such war rages on a ruined landscape called the Shattered Plains. There, Kaladin, who traded his medical apprenticeship for a spear to protect his little brother, has been reduced to slavery. In a war that makes no sense, where 10 armies fight separately against a single foe, he struggles to save his men and to fathom the leaders who consider them expendable.
Brightlord Dalinar Kholin commands one of those other armies. Like his brother, the late king, he is fascinated by an ancient text called The Way of Kings. Troubled by over-powering visions of ancient times and the Knights Radiant, he has begun to doubt his own sanity.
Across the ocean, an untried young woman named Shallan seeks to train under an eminent scholar and notorious heretic, Dalinar's niece, Jasnah. Though she genuinely loves learning, Shallan's motives are less than pure. As she plans a daring theft, her research for Jasnah hints at secrets of the Knights Radiant and the true cause of the war.

epic levels of escapism
Cool af worldbuilding, interesting magic system, loveable characters, plus a dash of badassery? Sign me right up. This had me hooked right from the start, kept me up way too late and even made me miss lectures ("I can't possibly sit through a lecture not knowing what happens next!").
Needless to say: I loved everything about this - the book and the narration - and i already count it towards my favourite fantasy series.
The female characters are top notch (which was a relief) it is, however a very straight book. So don't go in there expecting realistic amounts of diversity..
Other than that? Absolute banger. if you love fantasy, this one's for you.

Absolut amazing
I loved the story and the character and world building. It takes a while to get into this complex world but without a doubt one of the best books ive ever read🤍🤍🤍 a 10/10 for me.

Super
Tolle fantasywelt, Charaktere, Magie Geschichte. Und richtig gute Sprecher. Der Anfang ist etwas zäh, aber wer dran bleibt wird es definitiv nicht bereuen. So jetzt ab zum 2. Teil....

The new standard to be measured against
Sanderson created an absolute beast of a fantasy world here. The Cosmere is nothing but the current standard of fantasy writing to be measured against. The stormlight archives are taking you on a ride you will not forget. Loveable and hateable characters, understandable characters, relatable characters...and Hoid.
On this audiobook I have no negatives to write. The readers are doing a great job to catch you without over presenting themselves. The switches between male and female reader are a great way to separate the male and female driven storylines!

Gut - wie erwartet
Wer Brandon Sanderson kennt, und mag, wird wahrscheinlich auch dieses Buch mögen. Ähnlichkeiten mit dem großen Wheel of Time Zyklus den Sandersons zu vervollständigen mitgeholfen hat waren für mich allein schon auf Grund des Genres zu erwarten. Kate Reading und Michael Kramer sind, wie auch schon im Wheel of Time hervorragend und verleihen dem Audiobuch die Vielfalt die es zu hören einen Genuss macht.
Alles in Allem: Gelungen. Spannend und die einzige Frage die für mich offen bleibt: wann bekomme ich die nächste Dosis ;-)

Ich bin begeistert
Ich habe das Buch vor Jahren gelesen. Nun habe ich das Hörbuch entdeckt und ich bin mehr als zufrieden mit den beiden Sprechern. Die Stimmen passen sehr gut und vermitteln Atmosphäre.
Ich freue mich schon auf den nächsten Teil.
